He accepted that he needed to make a framework where he had a total data of what the clients needed. Subsequently, he made a tremendous advancement in the flexibly chain the executives of the organization. This empowered him to comprehend the issues and needs of individual clients. It has a decent gracefully chain the executives procedure where it conveys its items to its clients in snappy occasions deserting its rivals by giving the completed items from outsider coordinations and furthermore including praises with the item like printers (Kujawa, 2009). It likewise centered around great planning items and cost to serve diverse client portions. Dell additionally redesigned with time by selling its item on the web and propelled a server and the development of the item multiplied inside years in this way making it the world's biggest maker of PCs and it likewise won different honors. Example of overcoming adversity of Lenovo Lenovo is a Chinese American worldwide Technology Company with base camp in Beijing and it structures, creates, fabricates and sells PCs, tablet PCs, cell phones and note pad and IT programming. Lenovo is the world biggest PC as far as deals. The accomplishment behind Lenovo was the difficult work of the Chinese and American groups as they converge to make the organization achievement. Lenovo gets IBM top PC's executives (Miller, 2013). Lenovo concentrated on conveying imaginative items and spread out into new zones this outcome in its development. Lenovo is focused on making extraordinary equipment based items and furthermore eco-accommodating merchandise and furthermore Lenovo is sharp in enhancing in programming and equipment items. The organization likewise made a tremendous measure of arrangement of $1.75 billion creation it the third biggest PC organization and it additionally won different honors. Disappointment of Compaq Compaq was established in 1982 and turned into the biggest provider of PC during the 1990s. The organization concentrated on separated items by giving better designs and improved execution however following 20 years it arrived at end with nearly $2 billion in the red and offers esteemed at $12 in the securities exchange. The downfall of Compaq lay past market powers. By purchasing Tandem PCs in 1997 and DEC in 1998, Compaq included a lot of unpredictability. Abundance stock and unforeseen value rivalry in PC's directed to clearing out the benefits of Compaq. An inappropriate choice of the organization and key administration prompted the disappointment of the organization. End and Recommendations While Dell has kept up a favorable position over different organizations through an extremely productive framework, it must be considered that the quantity of players in the market has expanded in this specific industry. The Technology Industry has a great deal of possibilities yet it must be remembered that it would be utilized by different organizations also. Dell should at present, center around making, considerably more, item separation techniques that will give it a huge favorable position over different rivals in this field. By what means Can the Company Maintain its Competitive Advantage Dell can keep up its upper hand with great key administration arrangement and right choice taking capacity. Since it has joined it had developed consistently and turned into the universes biggest global undertaking. Till 2012 it was the market chief. The organization keeps up its preferred position with its fruitful direct deals plan of action, unrivaled flexibly chain the executives and its underlying bit of leeway from different sources. While different organizations put stock in large scale manufacturing, Dell made a framework where the parts were normalized and everything was worked to arrange. This was a framework that gave Dell an understanding that was considerably more than other contending brands. The bit of leeway that the organization gets is by supplanting stock with data. It is a flexibly chain the board idea that tries to oversee and lessen stock using data (Hugos, 2013). With the utilization of data, it prompts lean and dynamic flexibly and results in cost decrease. The organization concentrated on social affair data about market patterns and deals information. This improves arranging and anticipating. The product arrangement gives continuous data about interest and supplies this assistance keeping up least stock. The organization utilized key data like web based requesting framework which gives the most recent data to the provider with the present interest patterns and the organization prevail to keep up the ideal harmony among request and flexibly. Dell is serious in executing its worldwide procedure and at first, with this technique, the contenders neglected to coordinate its methodology subsequently giving the organization advantage. Its advertising abilities in direct offering its items to its clients and amassing of PC identified with the quantity of requests have sharpened its serious advantage(Kasarda, 2016). Its Just in Time methodology details in keeping the stock least decreasing expense and direct selling sidestep delegates bringing about high benefits of the organization. It additionally offers adaptable choices that end up being client situated. Its right area of assembling plant has brought about low work cost and high profitability powers. This has likewise permitted Dell to have a gracefully anchor that permits it to answer to the clients right away. Due to having fabricating plants at reasonable areas, Dell can gracefully merchandise to its clients right when they need them. Dell confined its assembling plants in specific areas. The explanation for is that a remote organization must offer area explicit preferences this will prompt low work cost and high workforce (Pilbeam and O'Driscoll, 2010). The organization pick creating nations where the pay rate is low and furthermore it gets charge exception from certain creating nations in light of the fact that the nation needed to pull in ventures. It picks India to introduce its manufacturing plant with the goal that conveyance time takes less to convey the products to its clients. This prompted vicinity in the market. Dell redistributed the assembling of PC's to exploit the serious market. The organization procedure was to construct a sound connection with the providers as opposed to making the item by own. Redistributing causes Dell to constructed client care relationship, to create innovative work and furthermore to deal with its effective flexibly chain the board however Dell doesn't re-appropriate the entire procedure if its business, it keeps the completing procedure of its items to keep itself from trickery (Priem and Swink, 2012). This methodology helps the organization to accomplish a serious market advantage. It received methodologies for its favorable position to be supported in a serious market. The organization permits its item to sell in the retail market to cover its misfortune already it was just immediate deals so the procedure changed and furthermore propelled PCs and note pads. End and Recommendations The organization could utilize the web based life to further its potential benefit by advertising the merchandise on these stages. The organization should hold its local specialties. These are the focal points the organization could follow in the serious market to continue in the market. Could this be Suitable for different Companies and if So Explain why, if not Explain Why? The principle Feature of Dells gracefully chain framework is that it fuses a direct to client approach in its conveyance. Additionally, it has used a large group of different strategies that focus on direct collaboration with the clients. This furnishes Dell with a bit of leeway over the others. Dell has worried on reinforcing their associations with the clients (Reimann and Ketchen, 2017). This has enabled them to investigate the issue all the more intently and think of the specific arrangements that the clients need (HITT, 2011). Their procedure of division of clients is in this manner dependent on singular methods. This sort of division causes the organization to find the specific issue or issue that should be tended to. This is what is absent in most different contenders of Dell. Thus, they don't concoct the best possible help that would give an answer for the core of the issue. This is, truth be told, a piece of Dells system to distinguish the different client sections that exis t in the business sectors. While this has helped Dell to pick up hold of the business showcase portion, it has additionally offered extensive assistance in the typical fragment permitting them to sell PCs like bananas. Likewise, Dell keeps up an amazingly straightforward framework with its Suppliers so they have a thought of precisely what is expected to address a specific circumstance. At last, Dells working to arrange is one of the most significant pieces of the technique. This methodology can, indeed, be reasonable for different organizations too (Burf, 2009). Childrens Stories About Being Yourself

The ancient Greek storyteller Aesop is credited with crafting scores of tales with valuable moral lessons. Many of them still resonate today, including the following tales about being yourself. Pretense Is Only Skin Deep Aesops fables tell us that nature will shine through no matter what package you put it in. Theres no point in pretending to be something youre not because the truth will eventually come out, either by accident or by force. The Cat and Venus. A cat falls in love with a man and begs  Venus to change her into a woman. Venus complies, and the man and cat-woman are married. But when Venus tests her by dropping a mouse into the room, the cat-woman leaps up to chase it. The cat can change her appearance, but not her nature. The Ass in the Lions Skin. A donkey puts on a lions skin and runs around the jungle scaring the other animals. But when he opens his mouth, his bray gives him away. The Vain Jackdaw. Dressing in the discarded feathers of other birds, a jackdaw almost convinces Jupiter to appoint him king of the birds. But the other birds strip him of his disguise and reveal his true nature. The Cat and the Birds. A cat, hearing that the birds are ill, dresses as a doctor and offers his help. The birds, seeing through his disguise, reply that theyre fine and will continue to be so if he will only leave. After all, the birds have a lot more at stake than the cat does. The Dangers of Pretense Aesops fables also warn us that trying to be something youre not can alienate others. The protagonists in these tales end up worse off than if they had just accepted themselves. The Jackdaw and the Doves. A jackdaw paints his feathers white because he likes the looks of the doves food. But they catch on to him and chase him away. When he goes back to eat with the other jackdaws, they don’t recognize his white feathers, so they, too, chase him away. Guess who ends up hungry. The Jay and the Peacock.  This story is similar to The Jackdaw and the Doves, but instead of desiring food, the jay just wants to strut like a proud peacock. The other jays watch the whole thing, disgusted, and refuse to welcome him back. The Eagle and the Jackdaw. A jackdaw, envious of the eagle, tries to behave like one. But without the eagles skills, he gets himself into a sticky situation and ends up as a pet for children, his wings clipped. The Raven and the Swan. A raven who wants to be as beautiful as a swan becomes so obsessed with cleansing his feathers that he moves away from his food source and starves to death. Oh, and his feathers stay black. The Ass and the Grasshopper.   This story is similar to The Raven and the Swan. A donkey, hearing some grasshoppers chirping, jumps to the conclusion that their voices must be a result of their diet. He resolves to eat nothing but dew, and consequently starves. Be Yourself Aesop also has a host of fables designed to demonstrate that we should all be resigned to our station in life and not aspire to anything greater. Foxes should be subservient to lions. Camels shouldnt try to be cute like monkeys. Monkeys shouldnt try to learn to fish. A donkey should put up with a terrible master because he could always have an even worse one.  These arent great lessons for modern children. But Aesops stories about avoiding pretense (and not starving yourself for beauty) still seem relevant today.

Teenage drug and alcohol abuse is becoming a major problem in the United States. Abuse of illicit substances eventually leads to an addiction. Drug and alcohol addiction is a disease, and it is contagious. It does not spread through germs; it spreads through families, schools, and communities. There are two youth prevention programs that try to exceed at decreasing the drug and alcohol abuse in teenagers. They are the D.A.R.E. program and the Serenity House based out of Texas. The D.A.R.E. program, also known as the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a national substance abuse prevention education program that seeks to prevent the use of drugs and alcohol in the young teenagers of America. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 by Daryl Gates who was the Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department at the time. The story goes that when Gates noticed the number of drug busts on school campuses was increasing, he had the idea to focus on prevention education instead of punishment (Cima, 2015). Ga tes wanted police officers to teach elementary and middle school classes about the effects of these substances. He felt teachers, and doctors were not a qualified fit for the job. Although, I find that the D.A.R.E. program exposes teenagers to the topic of drugs and alcohol before it even becomes relevant to them. There Is No Question That Gay Marriage Has Become A Huge

There is no question that gay marriage has become a huge moral and spiritual issue for the church (Brown 2014). Liberal Protestants believe because this issue has torn groups of believers apart we would be better to accept our differences in beliefs and move forward with the mission of spreading Jesus’s love. The Conservative Protestants viewpoint on this issue is people in homosexual relationships need to be shown love while at the same time helping them understand what the Bible says on this topic. In 1 John 4:8, â€Å"Love is the greatest of these not only because it is eternal, but because even in this temporal life, where we now live, love is supreme.† (Life application study Bible 2011) If two people are in a committed loving homosexual relationship, since God is love then the relationship must be from God. Liberals also believe condemning same-sex marriages is harmful to the LGBTQ community and its members. They reference the story when Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount that good trees bear good fruit and bad trees bear bad fruit. Disneys The Lion King free essay sample

â€Å"The Lion King† (A): The $2 Billion Movie† is a case describing the transformation that Disney underwent after being taken over by Michael Eisner and the subsequent release of â€Å"The Lion King. † Prior to the appointment of Eisner as CEO underperforming both creatively and financially, with critics claiming Disney was failing to innovate and move with the times, and financial analysts taking the company off their stock-to-buy lists due to a dip in share prices. Eisner was able to reinvent and restructure the company by implementing various different managerial ideologies and business models, to which the success of the â€Å"The Lion King,† one of the largest grossing movies of all time, is a testament. The earliest incarnation of the Walt Disney Company did not implement much of a corporate structure. The Disney brothers, Walt and Roy, ran their business in an informal, nonhierarchical manner and saw no need to establish official titles or structures. We will write a custom essay sample on Disneys The Lion King or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Employees were on a first name basis; Walt Disney stated, â€Å"If a person is important to the company, then other employees will know it. † Their original success came primarily through producing animated versions of classic stories such as â€Å"Peter Pan† and â€Å"Sleeping Beauty†. Disney was known for reworking timeless tales, as opposed to generating new content. However, the death of Walt, in 1966, and Roy, in 1971, showed a noticeable downward shift in in the company’s profits. Between 1969 and 1984, Disney had produced a series of cinematic disappointments, and belief in the company had started to wane. Several consumers and fans lost faith. Remarks such as â€Å"Disney isn’t changing with the times and have lost their appeal†, â€Å"The movies are missing heart. The old ones had heart†, started to arise, consequently causing Disney’s stock price to drop severely. By 1984, a number of financial analysts had taken Walt Disney Company off their stock-to-buy list, since the shares dropped from $75 per share to $47 per share. It was in the aftermath of these events that Eisner was brought on board. When Eisner first joined the company, it was clearly in need of restructuring. The Disney theme parks accounted for 80% of operating income, film for just 1%. Film production costs were far above the industry average, and company net income was down. It was clear that changes needed to be made. In the rebuild, Eisner’s motto was â€Å"transform the company from a creator of content to a creator and distributer of content. † In other words, this meant that Eisner strove to lessen the financial impact that came with risky, expensive films that failed to be commercially successful by equipping Disney with the capabilities to produce cheaper films in-house. He also sought to diversify Disney’s customer base and introduced new channels through which revenue could be generated, outside of box office blockbusters. One of the most successful of these endeavors was The Disney Store, which not only generated huge profits, but also kept Disney connected to their customers in a fresh, unprecedented way. Eisner was able to manage change collaboratively by using the framework. The first step in framework is to build a climate of psychological safety through trust and mutual respect. Employees in the Disney Company were not going to be ridiculed for any mistakes or by the company. Eisner established a path of communication to encourage people to speak up. Known for his tough leader reputation, in which he often stated, â€Å"If you aren’t tough, you don’t get quality†, Eisner mentioned that the company needs an atmosphere in which people feel safe to fail. He believed that failure should not only be tolerated, and that the fear of criticism for submitting a ‘foolish’ idea should be thrown out; otherwise, people become too careful and shy. Eisner took Disney’s existing flat, nonhierarchical organization and transformed it into a well-defined and clear infrastructure by addressing the rational change, to bring back the movies that had â€Å"heart†, and be the company that used collaborative problem solving and learning (by taking new ideas and coming up with a way to promote the idea). This turned Disney’s organic structure into a functional mechanistic structure. In creating other avenues through which to boost profits outside of what Disney had conventionally done, Eisner was creating a safety net for the company, and establishing a profit multiplier business model. Through this model, Eisner generated capacity divisions (Creative Content, Broadcasting, and Theme Parks and Resorts), while using the animation as a core to help reach the added value of profit, bringing in huge returns for shareholders and reviving the flagging Disney brand. The Creative Content division worked several times across the many divisions in order to benefit consumers and shareholders. It is made up of theatrical films, home videos, audio products, television production and distribution, Walt Disney Theatrical production, character merchandise and publication licensing, The Disney Stores, newspapers, technical, and specialty publishing, books and magazines, and Disney interactive. The Broadcast Division consists of radio and television stations, cable and international broadcast. The Theme Parks and Resorts Division consisted of Disney parks, hotels, and resorts. Eisner also recognized the huge financial potential of animation, despite the fact that many thought animation was something of a dying art. Eisner recognized that animated characters could easily be repackaged and manipulated in various different capacities to generate profit. Eisner reaffirmed Disney’s commitment to animation, which had been a cornerstone for the company since its inception. With the new business model in place and Eisner at the helm, the way was paved for â€Å"The Lion King† to be a huge commercial success. The profit multiplier business model is an organic form with a horizontal structure that places a strategic focus on adaptability culture. It focuses on the external environment through flexibility and change to meet customer needs. With this in hand, Disney decided to meet customers’ needs by adding the retail store – creating more direct links with its customers. Disney formed a dynamic and creative workplace by ensuring that each division meet the customer’s needs through the production of movies and merchandise. This accumulation of resources, as well as taking advantage of its external resources (alliances with companies such Mattell, Nestle, Coke A Cola, etc.. ) helped Disney successfully promote their image and product. Alliances weren’t Disney’s only source back to the top. Its accessibility to financial resources, allowed for its animation department to go on a trip to Africa, in order to get a more accurate depiction of the scenario they thought would best bring its upcoming â€Å"The Lion King† to life. â€Å"The Lion King† was Disney’s first original storyline, and it took 4 years and an estimated $50 million to complete. Eisner’s new structure called for the animators to present the new movie concept to heads of all departments, so that all departments such as Home Video, Consumer Products and Theme Parks could be poised and ready to brainstorm and find ways to exploit these new characters. The idea was not to just to capitalize on the movie after it’s release, but to harness its potential before it was even completed to ensure that Disney could make as much money through all of its different outlets and channels as possible. Incorporating Hollywood A-listers such as Elton , Whoopi Goldberg, and Time Rice served as noticeable advantage in Disney’s brand recognition. The movie grew to gross $2 billion in revenue for Disney, a runaway success that must be largely attributed to Eisner’s profit multiplier business model. To conclude, â€Å"The Lion King† is a perfect example of the way in which careful planning and business structuring can lead to overwhelming success. The way in which Eisner was able to exploit original content to gross the most revenue by diversifying profit channels is a model that is consistently being replicated today almost twenty years later. Its success in providing creative content resulted in a huge impact across the division of the company, giving Disney a structure that will both, keep Disney at the top and keep its stock prices at a level that has people like James Jones saying, â€Å"you don’t get rich working for Disney, you get rich owning Disney stock. †

Socrates Essays (1925 words) - Socratic Dialogues,

Socrates Socrates is a noteworthy and important historical figure as a philosopher, because of his and his pupils' influence on the development of the philosophical world. His teachings, famous arguments, and ideas began the outgrowth of all later western philosophies. Born in 469 BC just outside of Athens, Socrates was brought up properly, and thoroughly educated. He was raised as most Athenians; developing both physical and mental strengths. Socrates then went on to learn from Archelaus the philosopher. Here he studied astronomy, mathematics, and was introduced to philosophy, which was a new concept at the time. Archelaus taught of explanations for the world with a scientific approach. Socrates, however, turned away from this idea and created his own. He decided that instead of trying to understand the universe, a person should try to understand himself. To express his philosophy, Socrates spent his days in the marketplace of Athens, telling people of his ideas. His voice was heard, and he was soon declared to be the wisest of all men. Socrates' was skilled in the art of arguing. He developed a method by which he would win every debate. His favorite hobby was going to the marketplace and debating philosophical issues with other men in front of an audience. The result of these debates was that Socrates embarrassed the wise men in front of the crowd. This caused many to dislike him. After being named the wisest man, Socrates attempted to prove that this was not true. He debated with many men in the streets. These debates are some of his most famous argument methods. He started the discussion by stating that he knew nothing. As a result of the debate, he was able to prove that although his opponents claimed that they were wise, they knew nothing either. Socrates concluded that he really was the wisest man because unlike the others, he knew that he knew nothing. Socrates had many ideas and philosophies concerning issues other than the knowledge of oneself. These included explanations of the universe, the belief in god, and life's goals. Other, earlier philosophers, had many different interpretation for the makeup of the world. Some believed that it was made out of numbers, others thought that it was made of a single substance, or many different substances, while still conflicting philosophers theorized that everything was formed out of atoms, and even illusions. Socrates had his own, different ideas. He believed that the world was made of forms that are not within the reach of our senses, but only of our thoughts. This means, for example, that when we think of characteristics such as roundness, we only picture ideas of it like a ball or a wheel. Therefore, he assumed that we only understand specific things that participate in our lives. In his search for the inner truth of oneself, Socrates theorized the explanation to the question of what the goals of life are. He concluded that everyone tries to find the meaning of happiness and goodness in their existence. This is the purpose of life. However, true happiness comes in many forms and is disguised in a way that people spend their lives looking for goodness, but finding only the evil in which it is concealed. The only way to discover true happiness, goodness, and the right way, is to fully understand oneself. Socrates did not believe in the Greek gods or religion. He had his personal view of god. Socrates felt that there must be some form of divine power because everyone seemed to believe in some kind of god and religion. He also believed in a sort of immortality. He hypothesized that there was an afterlife. His explanation for it was that people who had achieved goodness in their lives knew where they were going afterwards, and that evil people tried to ignore the fact that immortality existed. He preached that the soul was a person's true being, and that our goodness in life reflected on the goodness of our souls. According to Socrates, each individual should try to make his soul as moral as possible so that it can be like god, which will allow the achievement of an afterlife. Debating in the marketplace of Athens was not Socrates' only daily activity. He also taught his philosophies to a group of students in a small classroom. These students were much like disciples. They respected and followed in the philosophies of their teacher. Socrates' most famous pupil, Plato, went on to become a great philosopher like his mentor. Socrates lived through and fought in

Success of the Mexican Revolution essays

Success of the Mexican Revolution essays Why was the first Mexican Revolution successful? Many factors made the first Mexican revolution successful. Revolutions in other countries, discontent people from all classes, and passionate revolutionaries were among the factors that led to a successful revolution. King Charles III took the funding of the church for himself because he feared that the Church would become too powerful. The church served as a bank to the Creoles and priests, and the lack of funding meant they would have to borrow from haciendas, which caused hardships for the Creoles and priest. After many years of Spanish rule, the Latin American colonials began hate the ruling of Spaniards. The ideas of the American and French Revolutions, along with the ideas of the Enlightenment made revolutionaries wanted to overthrow Spanish Rule of Latin America. And with the French invasion of Spain in 1808, the discontent creoles and priests began plotting a revolution. Dozens of secret societies sprang up everywhere. An influential revolutionary was Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who issued an arousing plea known as the Cry of Dolores. This called for end of Spanish Rule, equality for all races, and for redistribution of land from rich to poor. He was sympathetic to the Indians, which was very unusual among Mexican clergymen. His sympathy towards Indians was able to gain him support of the Indians and mestizos. An army of Indian and mestizo forces headed toward Mexico City to kick out the gachupines, led by Hidalgo and Allende, a renegade army officer. A mass slaughter of gachupines followed. This bloodbath shocked Hidalgo, who had not expected such violence. The rebellion was crushed in 1811, ending with the execution of Hidalgo and Alende. Soon afterwards, another priest, Jose Maria Morelos, took up Hidalgos cause. His campaign was based on logic, whereas Hidalgos was based on the hatred of Spaniards. He defined specific goals ...

Acquire the varied competence skills in service to older adults Personal Statement

Acquire the varied competence skills in service to older adults - Personal Statement Example All this results in that in the process of communication I teach them to look for the right decisions in every aspect of their life. For example, a lot of older adults do not pay enough attention to their diet, but I urge them to place an emphasis on that part of their activities (Niedert, 1998, 190). While talking to an older adult I am able to build a relationship that is full of trust which ultimately leads towards contributing to the personal grown of a person and acknowledgement of the necessity for introspection (Magniant, 2004, 180). In other words, I try to direct the attention of this people to the treasure of wisdom that they have. In addition to that, I focus a lot of our communication to finding opportunities for active lifestyle if the health condition permits. For example, I encourage adults to see travel more as this might be a wonderful experience for them (Patterson, 2006, 4), leading to widening of their outlook. I often analyze what a particular older adult values a lot in his or her life and determine if one is able to benefit from a religious approach towards understanding getting older. In some cases, Bible studies appear to be quite encouraging and motivating for the people to understand the meaning of their life and what waits for them (Dunson, 1999, 1). While interacting with an older person, I usually try to put emphasis on the need to exercise one’s will when it comes to improving one’s life. For example, a lot of people might face problems with alcohol and become slaves of the bottle at the final stage of their lives (Barry & Oslin, 2001, 19). However, it may be avoided if a person knows the true power of one’s will. Finally, while helping an older adult, I try to utilize a systemic approach towards evaluating different aspects of one’s life which provides me with a broad picture of the environment that one is surrounded

A Study On Cigarette Smoking Among The Teen Population Math Problem

A Study On Cigarette Smoking Among The Teen Population - Math Problem Example Popular movie actors, and actresses, who are often admired by teen’s present smoking as part of the rebellion for teens smoking is being â€Å"cool† or â€Å"popular†. Smoking is a dangerous habit, and teenagers are not aware of what they are getting theirselves into when they first start out smoking. With this in mind, I based my project on making a study on teen and cigarette smoking. I am concerned about what I have read and heared about the deaths , illnesses, and health problems associated with tobacco use. Teen smoking rates have inceased in recent years and many teens start smoking each day. I want to make a study on cigarette smoking among teenagers to assess the incidence of cigarette smoking among the teen population and to provide information that will be beneficial in developing â€Å"awareness programs to reduce cigarette smoking among teenagers.† I will also discover through my surveys if teens decide to continue to smoke or to quit and the n umber of teens who smoke. Research Plan : Teenagers in particular are prone to peer pressure and the image to look â€Å"cool† and try new things and be acceptable in their own crowd or circle of friends. There is a big concern for teens getting addicted with nicotine through cigarette use. I want to increase the awareness for teen smoking and its health problems that may be caused in their future. I plan to ask a group of teenagers if they are smokers and discover the age they started . I will also ask teenagers about the number of their families and friends who smoke and the factors which led them to smoking. Aim of the Study : To create more awareness of teen smoking and its effects and to discourage and prevent teenagers from starting to smoke. Try to encourage teenagers to stop smoking if they have already begun. To identify key behavioral triggers which influence teens to start smoking. To provide solutions for the cause of teenage smoking. To organize the data and info rmation collected and make it into useful graphs. To make recommendations and conclusions based on the survey. Methods of data collection : I used questionnaries to collect data regarding teen smoking to know at what age do teens start smoking and also the correlation of teen smoking with gender and other influences. My study is on Middle School students (ages 12-14 yrs), High School students , (ages 15-18 yrs), and those in Universities (ages 18-19 ) in Bahrain. I chose to use this method because my research is targeting the teen population. My survey gave me an observation on how teenagers think of trying out smoking at an early age. I believe that people are more truthful in filling up their questionnaires regarding controversial issues like teen smoking, due to the fact that their responses are anonymous. The survey will be performed with questions that ask the teenagers about the following independent variables: Gender – the hypothesis is that boys will most likely take up smoking than girls and will continue to smoke later on in life. Family and Friends – the hypothesis is that teens who have more family members or circle of friends that smoke will more likely start smoking and continue the smoking habits. I have also researched through the internet, books , different articles, statistics , and observations about teen smoking. I have made charts and graphs to illustrate the

The Psychic Tradition :: Psychic Essays

The Psychic Tradition Methodology The first thing that I did to conduct my research was to brainstorm the various places where I could find both fact and opinion concerning the role that the psychic realm plays within society. The most obvious choice was to visit a practicing psychic. I know of a psychic that works in my hometown of Nashville, Indiana. I tried on several occasions to contact her by phone and request permission for an interview, however, failed to do so. (First bit of knowledge acquired: psychics do not always follow office hours). I decided to try and meet with her in person and during meantime wrote a few pages of questions to ask during the interview in case conversation came to a lull (or in case I started to choke up). Next, I thought it might be interesting to see what a . free. phone psychic experience would be like. I called up Ms. Cleo, amongst the numerous others offered in the telephone book and on the T.V. I then went to the library and checked out five books. Two of the books went over the history of psychic abilities and the various methods and definitions. One of the books discussed Nostradamus. I felt it was necessary to review his prophecies considering he has had such profound effects on societies throughout time. The last two books consist of an autobiography and a biography, both of which are somewhat recent accounts of psychics living in a time we are all familiar with. Next, I decided to conduct a video survey, including mostly collage-age students, of opinions surrounding some of the key subjects that I had been researching. Additionally, I included a few demonstrations of supposed psychic phenomenon for those who do not posses the power of purely mental insight on the video. By December 2nd I was becoming very weary of trying to get a hold of Nashville. s local psychic, so I called a friend of mine up who has a history of dealing with the metaphysical and recently got hired as a psychic advisor by Ms. Cleo. She participated in an audio-reco rded interview that lasted around twenty minutes. Description The Gilgamesh Epic contains the first recorded prophets from 2000 B.C. Today, we see Ms. Cleo on the T.V.

The Curse of the Lady’s Dressing Room

Jonathan Swift’s poem, The Lady’s Dressing Room, is a comic satire that seeks to show readers the inescapable humanity – and its flaws and gory ugliness – that women have to live with no matter how hard they try to make themselves appear immaculately beautiful on the outside. It could be read as a criticism of the extreme efforts women do to make themselves beautiful, and as a criticism of the beholder, the man, who is enamored by the physical beauty only to realize the imperfections being hidden underneath that flawless exterior in the lady’s dressing room. The dressing room is where the transformation takes place – this is where the lady goes in simple and when she comes out she is a radiant beauty and men cannot help themselves. That is what the poem implies that is why the poem begins with a man, Strephon, who is enamored by Celia who takes at least five hours to prepare herself, sneaking in the dressing room to find out why, and discovers the horrors that goes on not only inside the room but also with his beloved Celia’s body beneath those laces and brocades. He discovers: first a dirty Smock appear'd, Beneath the Arm-pits well besmear'd. Strephon, the Rogue, display'd it wide, And turn'd it round on every Side. On such a Point few Words are best, And Strephon bids us guess the rest; But swears how damnably the Men lie, In calling Celia sweet and cleanly. That in fact, Celia is not as perfect as she seems – her clothes have perspiration and bad smell on them. hat follows next is a series of finding other items Celia uses to prepare herself – combs with dirt, dandruff and sweat, a piece of cloth with oil used to cover wrinkles, gloves made from Celia’s dog’s skin when it died, and various little jars filled with pomade, paint, ointments, all these used to cover her imperfections. Strephon even finds the discarded stockings that reveal stinking toes. No wonder that at the end of the poem, Strephon could no longer look straight at any woman, for his imagination always conjures the images he saw in the dressing roo m and saw their stinks, their flaws that they try so hard to hide. The narrator of the poem says that this is vengeance for his peeping, for if Strephon did no such thing then he could still be blessed when he sees beautiful women without knowing â€Å"such gaudy Tulips rais’d from Dung†. Hence this is the curse of the lady’s dressing room, that it took the magic and wonder for the beholder and made him see the woman as the imperfect creature masquerading to be a work of art. However, the dressing room is also a curse for Celia and all women, as it is the chamber where they feed their obsession to make themselves beautiful for men. In the poem the narrator mentioned â€Å"Celia’s magnifying Glass†, which is simply a mirror, but in this mirror everything was enlarged, that it can †¦to Sight disclose, The smallest Worm in Celia's Nose, And faithfully direct her Nail To squeeze it out from Head to Tail; For catch it nicely by the Head, It must come out alive or dead. — that it makes her so insecure to make her spend time to look for even the minutest flaws that no one would see anyway. The woman spends a minimum of five hours (perhaps an exaggerated figure, but the point is that women spend a large amount of time preening) and fails to see that real beauty comes from within, not on what is reflected by a piece of glass. The poem shows the readers an image of the preparation taken to make one look good outside but in so doing shows that perhaps it is nature’s way that makes it so difficult – that we should learn to appreciate each other and ourselves, flaws included, for we all have them. This is not to say to forgo hygiene, but merely to examine what activities we spend time on. The curse of the dressing room is that it makes us believe in the illusion that media sells us: the dream of that perfect skin, that Barbie body, that photoshopped face, that if we make up ourselves as long as we need to we can transcend our human bodies’ flaws. But we cannot, because all these are parts of what makes us who we are.
